Today our lungs were filled with the lusty scent of the woods as we "hiked" our loop at Steel Creek. Normal walk time is about 1.5 hrs, so multiply that times two for a trip out with the boys.
It. was. beautiful.
Silas will randomly sit down if he thinks he's tired and can con you into carrying him.
At the top of the Steep Hill. Who knows which one we're talking about?
We stopped for bananas. We stopped to climb trees. We stopped for sesame sticks and water and potty breaks. We fashioned a multitude of hiking sticks. We collected leaves and giant acorns.
Leon was determined to climb up the fallen tree roots.
Made it to the top with a bit of help from Dad. So proud!
The quiet rushing of the wind in the tree tops was interspersed by Leon rambling about catfish and tigerfish, and how the latter eats the former, or some such thing.
It was heavenly to take huge breaths of fresh untainted air for hours on end.
The leaves glowed, swirling down and around us, loosed by meandering breezes.
Silas held on to his hiking stick the whole time, even remembering towards the end that he had set it down and going back to retrieve it. He has a habit of taking off in the opposite direction - I was relieved that this time it was for a purpose.
Dear trees, I've missed you.
