Flowers!!

So Mom and I took a little trip up to Indoor Farms today. Heaven. I spent more on plants today than ever in my entire life, whew! So much fun.

Hill Manor 50th Year

Sooo....we're trying to do our annual theme dinners to while away the last of winter. 

Aaron and I talked about a theme for several weeks until we finally settled on one. 

We hashed out several ideas, but weren't happy with any of them. 80's - couldn't think of a menu, wasn't into the neon and clothes, etc...

Finally I suggest thinking of the food first, and then trying to come up with a theme around that. "I'm pretty good at making soup," I remarked. Aaron is not overly fond of soup, and that set him off, hah. 

He said, "Soup? It's impossible to have a soup party. You can have a pizza party or an oyster party, but not a soup party, because that's what will end the party. You just can't have it. If you have a great party going, and some one brings soup, it's over. People will leave. 

You can plan the greatest party, and then bring soup, and all those plans will come to ruin, because it's impossible to party with soup. If you ever want to stop a party, just take some soup there."

Well, I happen to love soup, and I was starting to get a little offended at the idea that soup is really that awful and no one likes it. Surely there must be a group of people somewhere that enjoys soup. 

And that's when it hit us. A nursing home.

It is our pleasure to invite you to Windsor Hill Manor Saturday evening, March 8th at 6:00 for the celebration of our 50th year operating as Bristol's finest nursing home. Join us for a delicious, yet easily digestible meal - available in smoothie form by request. First Presbyterian DJ "Night Jamms" will present spirited music for the evening with hits by the flute, the harp, and the pan flute. Be sure to brew an extra cup of decaf for Game Time, scheduled just before lights out at 7:30. Special bedtime music will be performed live by Hal "The Country Gentleman" Cardwell.

Please come dressed as a resident. Our friendly staff will be here waiting to serve you and make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Windsor Hill Manor - staff

So - enjoy this selection of pics from Windsor Hill Manor's 50th year celebration. Little did we know how much everyone was going to get into this, and stay in character to boot!

Before dinner it was time for medication. I put some harmless papaya tablets in cups, and the first person to eat one got a bag of Werthers candy.

Rebekah beat out Ben by a hair! 

For supper we had steak and gravy, green beans and carrots, 

with ice cream and strawberries for dessert. 

One resident in particular kept falling asleep during the meal. 

That same resident, namely Ben, pulled off the funniest stunt of the evening. He got up to get seconds, but then we heard the front door close. A moment later he was standing outside the huge front window in the flower bed. So staff member Aaron had to go out and guide him back in the house. It is now our policy to keep the door locked at all times. 

"Who is this young boy? ....where's the kitchen?!"

Leon really got into this. He figured out his outfit all by himself, hobbled around with a curtain rod for a cane, and would periodically fall down and holler for help from the "staff." 

Once we heard him on the floor, moaning and groaning about his knee, lol. 

Had to take turns trying on Pop's wig. 

Gram won the prize for the most thorough attention to detail. She was the highlight of the evening, and had all kinds of things to add to the fun, include a pair of dentures in a napkin on the table. She would not set down her purse, and kept it safely in her lap or on her person the whole evening, 

even while playing shuffle board. 

And I'm still trying to figure out the details,
but can I have a "woop woop" for embedding vimeo vids on this post?!
I'm pretty stoked about it.

Lots of good times and laughs. We were cracking up for days after.
